Draw a lot! Practice a lot! A lot!

Think about when you first begin speaking a foreign language. All the grammar and sentence structures confuse you and you have to check the dictionary for every other word and all you can manage is broken sentences and talking veeeery slowly. But as you keep using the language you get faster, need to rely less of the help of textbooks and eventually, if you are devoted, you’ll master the language! It’s the same for drawing! It’s all about absorbing new information while getting used to the medium. Here are some things that have helped me:

Abandon your pencil: Trust me and everyone who’s gone to CSSSA on this and switch to a pen! You’ll learn to get things right on the first try, which means less erasing, which in turn means you’ll be faster!

Contour drawing: The kind where you try to draw a thing from observation without lifting the pen even once. Sometimes this might be a face, a whole body or a whole building with all it’s details. For me this helped with making my shaky hand much more stable and the lines more confident! 

Quick gestures: Quick is the key-word here, there are some websites for these, but another nice thing to do is find a nice dance MV, pause that every 5 frames and quickly jot down the pose you see paused. 

all in all I’m still painfully slow myself (especially with lineart painting etc) but that just means I need a lot more practice! Answered this as a reblogable so that others can pitch in if they like to since I’m nOT SUrE what else to suggest. Also if you don’t already do that I suggest you go take a look at Noah Bradley’s blog he’s pretty good at motivational speeches. GOOD LUCK ANON!!
